معرفی
Dr. Mehdi Saeidi is a Research Fellow at the Department of Bioengineering, Imperial College London (Faculty of Engineering). His work focuses on developing low-cost, frugal orthopaedic innovations for resource-constrained settings. He leads projects like the Imperial External Fixator, piloted in Sri Lanka, Gaza, and Ukraine, and a novel bone transport nail to address limitations in bone defect treatment. His research integrates mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, and public health.
Education: PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Auckland University of Technology (New Zealand), with collaboration at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute. His doctoral work pioneered a load-sharing implant for knee osteoarthritis. Postdoctoral work at Imperial College involved advancing the External Fixator project and conducting clinical trials.
Research Interests:
- Frugal medical device design
- Orthopaedic implants for LMICs
- Biomechanics of bone remodelling
- Material science applications in surgery
Key Projects:
- Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship-funded bone transport nail development
- Secondment at Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital for clinical collaboration
- Low-cost external fixator deployment in conflict zones and LMICs
Awards: Recognized by IMechE, Falling Walls Foundation, and IET for contributions to engineering and healthcare innovation.
Labs/Teams: Active in Imperial's Bioengineering Department labs, collaborating with global partners in orthopaedics and global surgery.
