Arul Ramasamy is a Professor and Head of the Academic Department of Military Trauma and Orthopaedics within the Defence Medical Services, United Kingdom. He holds an honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer position at Imperial College London's Department of Bioengineering, Faculty of Engineering, and serves as Clinical Lead at the Centre for Injury Studies. His expertise spans trauma surgery, orthopaedics, and blast injury research.
Education: MBBS from the University of Cambridge (2000), PhD in Biomechanics from Imperial College London (2012). Military service includes deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan as a medical officer, with specialization in foot/ankle surgery and trauma care.
Research focuses on blast injuries, fracture healing, prosthetic integration, and combat injury management. He leads over £6m in grants and supervises PhD students on topics like skeletal fixation and rehabilitation. Notable contributions include modeling bone-implant interfaces and optimizing pelvic protection systems for military personnel.
