Megan O. Thompson

Megan O. Thompson is an Assistant Professor at Catawba College in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program within the Department of Sport and Health Sciences. She holds dual credentials as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and licensed school counselor in North Carolina, in addition to her status as a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

Dr. Thompson earned her master's degree in counseling from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and completed her doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision at Regent University. Prior to her current position at Catawba College, she served as an Adjunct Professor at Regent University, demonstrating her commitment to counselor education across multiple institutions.

Her therapeutic approach integrates person-centered methodology with cognitive behavioral therapy and strengths-based techniques to foster client resilience and mental wellness. Dr. Thompson's expertise spans multiple counseling domains including individual therapy, family systems, mental health diagnosis and treatment, and developmental counseling across the lifespan.

With substantial professional experience working with children and adolescents in educational settings as well as diverse client populations in private practice, Dr. Thompson brings practical clinical expertise to her academic role. She currently teaches core courses in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program including Counseling Skills and Techniques I, Human Growth and Development, Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental Health Disorders, Case Management, Counseling with Couples and Families, Counseling Practicum, and Counseling Internship, along with specialized courses in the Counseling minor such as Therapeutic Communication and Stress and Anxiety Management.
