Cynthia Briggs is an Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling at Rocky Mountain University, where she teaches in the Master of Science in Counseling (MSCO) program. She holds a PhD in Counseling from Oregon State University, alongside certifications in Documentary Arts (Duke University) and Instructional Design and Technology (Walden University). She is licensed as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina.
Her research focuses on military veterans' trauma, addiction counseling methodologies, and innovative teaching practices. Since 2014, she has coordinated the veterans’ oral history project at the Museum of Understanding, Storytelling, and Engagement (MUSE), producing podcasts like “Soldiers’ Heart” and collaborating with Wake Forest University’s Theatre Department. She advocates for non-confrontational addiction therapies, co-authoring Women, Girls, and Addiction: Celebrating the Feminine in Counseling, Treatment, and Recovery (Routledge).
Briggs emphasizes inclusive pedagogy, continually refining her skills in curriculum design and andragogy. She mentors doctoral students in dissertation work and has taught at universities in Oregon, Minnesota, and North Carolina since 2006.
