Matthew Mastromatteo is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts at Marymount Manhattan College, where they teach acting, voice, and movement. They are also an active performer, director, and intimacy professional based in New York City.
Matthew holds an MFA in Theatre Arts: Acting from Long Island University and a BA in Theatre and Music from Mount St. Mary’s University. Their educational background has informed a multidisciplinary approach to performance and pedagogy.
Their research and professional interests center on the integration of body, voice, and spirit in performance, with a strong emphasis on consent-forward, trauma-informed, and anti-racist practices. They specialize in physical theatre, queer narratives, and new work development, drawing from methodologies such as Suzuki, Viewpoints, and the Michael Chekhov technique.
Matthew is a certified Miller Voice Method teacher and has trained with leading intimacy organizations including Intimacy Directors and Coordinators, Theatrical Intimacy Education, and Open Intimacy Creatives.
As a director and performer, Matthew has worked with Adjusted Realists, 59E59 Theatres, Sarah Lawrence College, and the Powerhouse Theater Summer Intensive. They are committed to creating brave, collaborative environments in both rehearsal and classroom settings.
