Matthew Maddocks is a Professor of Health Services Research & Rehabilitation at King's College London's Cicely Saunders Institute of Palliative Care, Policy & Rehabilitation. He leads research on palliative care, rehabilitation, and symptom management for chronic illnesses like cancer, COPD, and frailty. His work focuses on improving outcomes for patients with complex conditions through interventions targeting breathlessness, cachexia, and sarcopenia. Maddocks holds multiple leadership roles, including Executive Lead for the Palliative Care Clinical Academic Group at King's Health Partners and co-lead for the NIHR Applied Research Collaborative's Palliative & End of Life Care theme.
Education: PhD in Physiotherapy (2010) from King's College London. NIHR post-doctoral, clinical trials, and career development fellowships have supported his research. He has received the ERS Mid-Career Gold Medal for Allied Health Professionals (2021) and leads EU-backed clinical trials in palliative care innovation.
