Dr. Matthew James Barnard is a Lecturer in Philosophy at Manchester Metropolitan University, where he holds a position in the Department of Philosophy. He holds a PhD in Philosophy, MA in European Philosophy, and BA (Hons) in Philosophy, complemented by Fellow status in the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His professional roles include Technical Lead (2014-present), Executive Committee Member (2014-present), and multiple secretarial roles with the British Society for Phenomenology.
Dr. Barnard's research focuses on Continental Philosophy, particularly exploring thinkers like Kant, Bergson, Heidegger, and Foucault. His work emphasizes themes of freedom, power dynamics, existentialism, and the intersection of philosophy with modern cultural phenomena. He has contributed to journals such as Journal of the British Society for Phenomenology and British Journal for the History of Philosophy, as well as authored chapters in edited volumes like The Bergsonian Mind.
