Dr Keith Crome is a Senior Lecturer in Philosophy and Director of Programmes at the Department of History, Politics and Philosophy, Manchester Metropolitan University. He holds a PhD in Philosophy and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). His research focuses on phenomenology, contemporary French philosophy (particularly Lyotard), and the philosophy of education. He currently leads the Faculty Employability Group and has previously served as Head of Department and Programme Leader for BA/MA Philosophy degrees.

His research explores the intersection of ancient Greek philosophy with 20th-century French thought, education’s role in shaping character, and the application of phenomenology to public policy. He collaborates with the Co-operative College on character development in education. Dr Crome supervises doctoral research in phenomenology, French philosophy, and educational philosophy. He has held external examiner roles at institutions including the University of Malta and American University of Greece.
His publications include a monograph on Lyotard (2004), essays on Kant and Lyotard (2020), and a recent introduction to Lyotard’s Libidinal Economy (2023). He actively promotes philosophy’s role in societal change through teaching and professional engagement.
He advises PhD students and has supervised 9 completed theses, including works on Deleuze, Heidegger, and Foucault. His current supervision focuses on cooperative community structures and radical political movements.
