Professor David Webb is a faculty member in the Department of Philosophy at Staffordshire University’s Digital, Tech, Innovation & Business School. His roles include Co-editor of the Material Futures book series (Bloomsbury Press), Visiting Fellow at the University of Lisbon’s Centre for the Philosophy of Science, and member of the Advisory Board for the Journal of Italian Philosophy. He holds a PhD from the University of Warwick and has expertise in Modern European Philosophy, particularly French epistemology (Foucault, Serres, Bachelard) and phenomenology (Heidegger, Levinas).
His research focuses on the intersection of knowledge, ethics, and politics, with recent work examining governance during crises through Serres’ philosophy. He teaches modules like 'Knowledge and Politics' and supervises doctoral research in continental philosophy. Notable publications include Foucault’s Archaeology: Science and Transformation (2012) and Heidegger, Ethics and the Practice of Ontology (2009). He has held roles such as Secretary of the British Society for Phenomenology (2004–2011) and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Publications span French philosophy, phenomenology, and interdisciplinary studies, with recent works addressing Serres’ theories of crisis and virtue. His HEIF4 project partners with Burslem Town Regeneration, blending academic and community engagement. Webb’s academic network includes advisory roles in international journals and conferences, emphasizing theoretical rigor with ethical-political relevance.
