Christopher Penfield is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Sweet Briar College since 2017. He holds a B.A. from Haverford College, an M.A. from The New School for Social Research, and a Ph.D. from Purdue University. His research focuses on postwar French philosophy, critical theory, and the intersections of political, social, and ethical agency. Penfield has authored and co-edited books such as Between Foucault and Derrida (2016) and is currently under review for a monograph on Deleuze’s engagement with Foucault. His translations of Deleuze’s Foucault seminars, supported by an NEH grant, are a major contribution to the field. Penfield teaches diverse courses, including philosophy of race, feminist philosophy, and environmental ethics.
