Matthew J. Farber is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological & Biomedical Sciences at Rowan University's College of Science & Mathematics. His research and teaching focus on brewing science, biotechnology, and fermentation processes, bridging molecular biology with practical applications in the brewing industry.

Dr. Farber's research centers on Brewing Science, including the development of novel yeast strains and microbiological media for beer production. He holds multiple patents, such as compositions for sour beer brewing and methods for detecting diastaticus yeast contamination. His work has commercial applications including Philly Sour™, Laktia™, and Farber Pham Diastaticus Medium (FPDM).
Recent publications and patents highlight his contributions to yeast characterization, sour beer production, and brewery contamination control. Dr. Farber is an active member of the American Society of Brewing Chemists (ASBC), Master Brewers Association of the Americas (MBAA), and National Homebrewers Association.
