His extensive publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on improving neonatal infection control practices and quality improvement in neonatal care. His recent work has examined practice preference variation in respiratory care, diagnostic utility of blood cultures for neonatal sepsis, and infection prevention strategies during the pandemic.
Dr. Bizzarro has received numerous honors including Best Doctors in America (2018-2020), the David J. Leffell Prize for Clinical Excellence (2016), and multiple Joseph A. Zaccagnino Patient Safety and Clinical Quality Conference awards.
He maintains active leadership roles in multiple professional organizations including the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (since 2005), Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (since 2009), and Society for Pediatric Research (since 2010). He has served on the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization's International Task Force to Prevent Infections on ECMO and the Connecticut State Infectious Disease Action Team, and is currently a member of the Connecticut Statewide Perinatal Quality Collaborative.
