Adam J. Ratner, MD is a Professor in both the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Microbiology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He serves as Director of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Hassenfeld Children's Hospital at NYU Langone, where he provides high-quality care for children with infections or at risk of developing them.

Dr. Ratner holds board certifications from the American Board of Pediatrics in both Pediatrics (2001) and Pediatric Infectious Diseases (2005). His educational background includes an MD from Columbia University (1998), residency in Pediatrics at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital (2001), and fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (2004).
Dr. Ratner's research focuses on pediatric infectious diseases, with particular emphasis on Group B Streptococcus, congenital and perinatal infections, and vaccine development. He directs an NIH-funded research laboratory that works across multiple levels from molecular genetics to population studies. His clinical interests include infections in newborns, bacterial sepsis, viral infections like respiratory syncytial virus, and during the pandemic, he contributed to determining effective diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of COVID-19 in children.
His extensive clinical expertise covers a wide range of conditions including antibiotic-resistant infections, bacterial resistance, brain inflammation, Clostridium difficile infections, Epstein Barr virus, fungal infections, gastrointestinal infections, hepatitis, herpes simplex virus infection, hospital-acquired infections, Lyme disease, malaria, MRSA, mycobacterium infections, neonatal infections, opportunistic infections, osteomyelitis, parasitic diseases, pelvic infections, pneumonia, respiratory tract infections, sepsis, septic arthritis, sexually transmitted diseases, shingles, sinus infections, spine infections, staphylococcal infections, tuberculosis, urinary tract infections, and various viral infections.
