Matt Taylor serves as Assistant Professor at Lipscomb University’s School of Music, where he directs the Concert Choir and University Chorale ensembles and teaches Choral Methods, Conducting, and Aural Skills. He also holds a faculty position at the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts, leading the Governor’s School Chorale. Previously, Taylor spent five years as an Associate Choral Director at Wando High School, contributing to one of South Carolina’s largest choral programs, and has conducted honor choirs across the southeast. In 2022, he made his international conducting debut with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir as one of five emerging guest conductors selected from North America.

A versatile musician, Taylor’s research and professional focus spans Choral Conducting, Music Education, and Composition, with expertise in Aural Skills pedagogy and Choral Arrangement. His work emphasizes practical training in choral methods, vocal education, and ensemble leadership. As an instrumentalist, he performs as a double bassist in symphonies, chamber groups, and jazz ensembles, while his compositions and arrangements cater to churches, high schools, and universities.
Actively involved in professional organizations, Taylor has served on the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Southern Region Conference Committee twice and remains a lifelong ACDA member. His career blends academic instruction with guest conducting and clinician roles for high school and church choirs nationwide.
