Mat Barber Kennedy

Mat Barber Kennedy is a Professor of Digital Communication at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, GA (2023–present). He previously taught at the Academy of Art in Chicago and other institutions. Holding an M.F.A. in design from the Royal College of Art and a B.A. in architecture from the University of Sheffield, he combines artistic and academic expertise.

His research interests focus on digital communication, watercolor techniques, and art education. He developed SCAD’s watercolor degree program and created the Art and Business course. As Gallery Director of the Bill Parks Gallery, he mentored fine art students in gallery installations.

Key awards include the Turner Medal (2008) and multiple accolades in watercolor competitions. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts and a member of the American Impressionist Society.

His artwork is featured in notable collections such as the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel and Willard Hotel, and he has presented at events like the International Watercolour Masters and National Watercolor Society exhibitions.
