Dr. Maryam Ba-Break is a Lecturer in Global and International Public Health at the School of Medicine, University of Leeds, within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. She has over 24 years of experience in public health research, teaching, and consultancy across the UK and multiple Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), including Yemen, Egypt, Sudan, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. She serves as Director of the International Master of Public Health (MPH) program and leads several core modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Her research focuses on non-communicable diseases (especially obesity and smoking), maternal and child health, malnutrition (over- and under-nutrition), behavior change, school-based interventions, and health systems research in LMICs. She employs mixed-methods approaches, including systematic reviews, quantitative and qualitative research, and epidemiological surveillance, particularly in the context of COVID-19. Her work often involves collaboration with international agencies such as UNICEF, Ministry of Health, CARE International, and the SOUL Organization.
Dr. Ba-Break is actively involved in supervising postgraduate research students and delivering training programs nationally and internationally. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and holds multiple professional memberships in public health and medical organizations.

She is also involved in several research initiatives at the Nuffield Centre for International Health and Development and affiliated PhD academies (LICAMM, LIMR).
