Professor Mary Morgan is the Albert O. Hirschman Professor of the History and Philosophy of Economics at the London School of Economics (LSE). She holds a PhD in Economics from LSE and has served as Department Chair of Economic History (2002-2005). Her research focuses on the history and philosophy of economics and statistics, including narratives in science, measurement practices, and the performativity of economic ideas. Current projects include studies on narrative science, economic measurement, and the impact of economic ideas on governance.
Notable awards include Fellow of the British Academy (2002) and Overseas Fellow of the Royal Dutch Academy. She has led major grants like the European Research Council’s 'Narrative in Science' and the Leverhulme Trust’s 'How Well Do Facts Travel?'. She currently serves as President-Elect of the Royal Economic Society (2022-2023).
Her teaching includes EH429: History of Economics, exploring ideas, policy, and performativity. She has advised numerous PhD students and contributed to interdisciplinary research across philosophy, history, and social sciences.
