Anna Mahtani is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She completed her PhD on the Epistemic Theory of Vagueness at the University of Sheffield in 2005, followed by a British Academy Postdoc at the University of Oxford before joining LSE in 2013.
Her research spans formal epistemology, decision theory, philosophy of language, and welfare economics. Key areas include:
- Vagueness and credence: Exploring supervaluationism and imprecise probabilities
- Rationality constraints: Dutch book arguments, Pareto principles, and Reflection principles
- Epistemic dynamics: Awareness growth, deference, and updating mechanisms
- Philosophical economics: Designator-dependence in welfare analysis
Her publications focus on Bayesian epistemology, probability formalisms, and ethical decision-making. Recent works analyze credence instability, opaque propositions, and the interplay between linguistic vagueness and probabilistic reasoning.
