Susanna Rinard is a Professor of Philosophy at Harvard University's Department of Philosophy. She is on leave during Spring 2025. Her research focuses on determining rational belief structures, integrating probability theory into epistemology, and resolving paradoxes in philosophy of science. Rinard earned a BA from Stanford University and a PhD from MIT, followed by teaching at the University of Missouri - Kansas City before joining Harvard in 2014.
Her research interests include formal epistemology, Bayesian solutions to paradoxes (e.g., ravens paradox), decision theory for imprecise credences, and the ethics of belief. She explores how philosophical reasoning can challenge common sense while defending knowledge against skepticism. Current projects aim to develop improved probabilistic belief models and address pragmatic responses to skepticism.
