Mary Hofer serves as Lecturer and Coordinator of the Aber Suzuki Center at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where she has taught Suzuki Voice since 1989 and became the United States' first Suzuki Voice Teacher Trainer in 2014. She trains educators internationally from Brazil, Puerto Rico, Canada, Ecuador, and the U.S., and coordinates the center's academic programming within the university's music education framework.
Her academic foundation includes a Bachelor of Music from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Suzuki Association of America Teacher Training certification. She studied under Professor Emeritus Marjorie Phelps Gerson-Kampenga and received coaching from Jon Spong, Fred Popper, and Richard Crittenden.
Hofer's research centers on Music Education with specialized focus on the Suzuki Voice Method's application for lifelong singing development across all age groups. She investigates how the Suzuki philosophy cultivates vocal artistry through nurturing environments, parental involvement, and sequential skill-building, emphasizing its transformative potential for community music engagement and age-inclusive pedagogy.
As an active scholar-practitioner, she has presented at seven Suzuki Association of the Americas Conferences (1990-2018) and delivered clinics globally including Zoom teaching methodologies and multilingual updates to Suzuki Voice Volumes 1-2. Her community roles include Cantor for Holy Spirit Church and decade-long service as Wisconsin Music Teachers Association Co-District Chair.
