Mary Dalton is a Full Professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland, specializing in Newfoundland literature, contemporary Canadian poetry, and creative writing. She holds an MA from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a BA (Honours) from the University of Toronto. Her research explores vernacular elements in poetry, traditional Newfoundland culture, and the works of Samuel Beckett and I. Compton-Burnett.
Dr. Dalton has authored numerous poetry collections including Hooking (2013) and Edge (2015), and edited volumes such as Global Poetry Anthology (2013). She founded the SPARKS Literary Festival (2009–2015) and regularly teaches courses on creative writing, Newfoundland literature, and Irish poetry.
Her creative projects include a new poetry collection drawing on Newfoundland traditions. Professional activities include adjudicating major poetry awards and editorial work for Canadian poetry publishers.
