Allan Hepburn is a James McGill Professor of Twentieth-Century Literature at McGill University's Faculty of Arts. His research focuses on the novel's intersections with cultural issues like espionage, fine art, and religion. He teaches British, Irish, and American fiction, with current work exploring citizenship in mid-20th-century British literature.
Education: Ph.D. (Princeton University), B.A. and M.A. (University of Western Ontario).
Research Interests: Modernism, contemporary fiction, British/Irish/Canadian literature, narrative theory, spy fiction, material culture, and the history of the novel. He has published extensively on authors like Elizabeth Bowen, Ivy Compton-Burnett, and Muriel Spark.
Awards: Royal Society of Canada Fellow (2022), multiple SSHRC grants, and teaching awards including the Carrie M. Derick Award (2009).
Advising/Grants: Supervises MA/PhD students on topics like terrorism in fiction, soundscapes in Beckett, and mid-century privacy law. Holds SSHRC grants for projects on mid-century literature and religion.
