Dr. Marty Draper serves as Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in the College of Agriculture at Kansas State University (KSU), concurrently directing the Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station. Previously, he was Department Head of Plant Pathology at KSU (2016–2018) and held roles at USDA-NIFA as National Program Leader for Plant Pathology and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). His career spans teaching, research, and Extension work at South Dakota State University and North Dakota State University, including managing diagnostic labs and seed health programs.
- Bachelor’s in Plant Pathology from Iowa State University
- MS and PhD in Plant Pathology from North Dakota State University
His research focuses on crop disease management (wheat, soybean, safflower), biosecurity, and federal agricultural policy. He leads initiatives like the Tactical Sciences Network and coordinates programs such as the National Plant Diagnostic Network (NPDN) and ipmPIPE. His work integrates diagnostic networks, IPM strategies, and grant development to address agricultural challenges.
Key contributions include advancing fungal genetics studies, developing disease-resistant crop varieties, and enhancing USDA-NIFA’s capacity programs. He emphasizes the importance of documenting research impact and fostering community engagement in invasive species management.
