معرفی
Dr. Martin Morad is a Professor in the Department of Cell Biology & Anatomy at the School of Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina. He is an internationally recognized expert in cardiac electrophysiology and calcium signaling, with a focus on calcium-binding proteins and their role in heart function.
- Education
- BA, Lake Forest College (1961)
- PhD, Physiology, SUNY New York City (1965)
- Postdoctoral work, Heidelberg University & UCLA
Dr. Morad’s research investigates the calcium signaling mechanisms that govern cardiac contraction and regeneration. His work targets 40,000-protein cardiac systems and defects in calcium channel regulation leading to heart failure. Key contributions include studies on biological pacemakers using genetically engineered cells and oxygen sensitivity of calcium channels.
Scientific awards include the Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Health. His research has been supported by NIH grants (R01 HL016152) and explores calcium signaling pathologies in conditions like catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) and alcohol withdrawal syndromes.
