Martin Morad

Dr. Martin Morad is a Professor in the Department of Cell Biology & Anatomy at the School of Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina. He is an internationally recognized expert in cardiac electrophysiology and calcium signaling, with a focus on calcium-binding proteins and their role in heart function.

Dr. Morad’s research investigates the calcium signaling mechanisms that govern cardiac contraction and regeneration. Key contributions include studies on biological pacemakers using genetically engineered cells and oxygen sensitivity of calcium channels.

Scientific awards include the Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Health. His research has been supported by NIH grants (R01 HL016152) and explores calcium signaling pathologies in conditions like catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) and alcohol withdrawal syndromes.
