Claire Hopton is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at The University of Manchester's Division of Evolution, Infection and Genomics, and a Consultant in Genomic Medicine at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. She holds an NIHR Clinical Lectureship position since 2019 and completed her PhD in 2019, funded by the British Heart Foundation. Her research focuses on inherited cardiac conditions, particularly Catecholaminergic Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia (CPVT) caused by RYR2 gene variants. She has conducted collaborative research in Israel (Prof. Gepstein's lab) and the Netherlands (Prof. Pinto's lab).
Education: MBBS from the University of Sheffield (2008), followed by clinical training in South Yorkshire and Liverpool. Specialized in Clinical Genetics from 2012 onward.
Research Interests: Genetic mechanisms of inherited arrhythmias, stem cell modeling of cardiac disorders, and precision medicine applications. Key contributions include RYR2 variant characterization using induced pluripotent stem cells and β-blocker efficacy studies in CPVT treatment.
Awards: Recognized with the Daniel Turnberg Cup (2021), Royal College of Physicians Quincentennial Lecturer (2018), and BHF Clinical Research Training Fellowship (2016).
Grants: BHF-funded PhD, NIHR Clinical Lectureship. Active in translational research, with 22 publications including peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
