Dr. Marta Kahancova is a Research Fellow and Managing Director at the Central European Labour Studies Institute (CELSI), affiliated with the University of Leeds' Leeds University Business School. Her expertise lies in multinational firms, work practices, industrial relations, and migration-related employment dynamics. Previously, she held roles including Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies (MPIfG) in Cologne, Lecturer at the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Labour Studies (AIAS), and Researcher at the Amsterdam School for Social Science Research (ASSR). She earned a PhD in Social Sciences from the University of Amsterdam (2007), focusing on employment practices in multinational firms across Europe, and holds Master’s degrees in Political Sciences/Political Economy (Central European University, 2002) and Commerce (University of Economics, Bratislava, 2001).
Her research explores how social interactions and institutional contexts shape workplace practices in multinational corporations, particularly bridging Western and Eastern Europe. She has contributed to international research projects and conferences, emphasizing the sociological dimensions of global labor markets.
Through her affiliation with the Centre for Employment Relations, Innovation and Change (CERIC) at Leeds, she engages in interdisciplinary studies on contemporary employment challenges. Her career includes visiting research stints at the European University Institute in Florence and teaching roles at the University of Amsterdam’s International School for Humanities and Social Sciences.
