Mark R. Luborsky, PhD, is Director of Aging and Health Disparities Research at the Institute of Gerontology and Professor of Anthropology and Gerontology at Wayne State University. He also holds the position of Foreign Professor of Gerontology at the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences & Society, Karolinska Institute, Sweden.
His research focuses on aging, health disparities, and methodological innovation in qualitative and mixed methods. He has made significant contributions to study design, intervention development, and critical methods in health research, with work published in key outlets including the NIH's Qualitative Methods in Health Research. His findings have informed the CDC National Health Interview Study and clinical guidelines on later life depression and adaptive device use.
Luborsky has served as Principal Investigator on grants from NIA, NIMH, NICHD, NIOSH, CDC, DoD, USAID, and international funders in Sweden and Thailand. He was Editor of Medical Anthropology Quarterly and a standing member of NIH study sections (CIHB and HUD-2). He previously served as HIC/IRB Vice-Chair and currently contributes to the Data Safety Monitoring Board for an NIH multi-site surgical trial.
Current projects include a randomized trial to reduce violence in hospitals and a community-based intervention to reduce exposure to industrial toxins among minority populations who fish in Michigan’s rivers.
