Mark Edberg

Mark Edberg is a Professor at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University, specializing in Prevention and Community Health. He holds secondary appointments in the Department of Anthropology and Elliott School of International Affairs. His work focuses on reducing health disparities through community-based research, particularly in immigrant/refugee populations and global health initiatives.

• Education: PhD in Cultural Anthropology (University of Virginia, 2000), MA in Applied Anthropology (American University, 1989), MA in Political Science (UCLA, 1982).
• Research Interests: Youth violence prevention, social determinants of health, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, and immigrant/refugee health.

Dr. Edberg directs the Avance Center for Immigrant/Refugee Health Disparities and the Center on Social Well-Being and Development (CSWD), collaborating with UNICEF, World Food Program, and local communities. He has led NIH, CDC, and UN-funded projects addressing firearms violence, historical trauma, and pandemic responses.
