Mark R. Luborsky is a Professor of Anthropology and Gerontology at Wayne State University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He serves as Co-Director of the SWAN Social Work and Anthropology doctoral program and leads the Aging & Health Disparities Research Program. His academic roles include Editorial leadership for Medical Anthropology Quarterly and membership on NIH review committees. Luborsky holds concurrent positions at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, contributing to global health research.
Education:
- B.A. with Honors in Anthropology/Social Psychology, Hobart College (1974)
- Ph.D. in Social Anthropology, University of Rochester (1985)
Research Interests: Luborsky focuses on life course transitions, health disparities, chronic/infectious disease, and ethnographic methods. He explores narratives of resilience and adaptation in aging populations, particularly among marginalized groups. Recent work addresses workplace violence in healthcare and environmental toxin impacts on communities.
