Mark Luborsky is Professor of Gerontology and Director of Aging & Health Disparities Research at Wayne State University's Institute of Gerontology, with joint appointment as Professor of Anthropology. Elected to WSU Academy of Scholars in 2022.
Research examines life-course reorganization, disability, mental health, and environmental health disparities. Studies include: social reintegration of military veterans with spinal cord injuries; household downsizing in later life; environmental legacy of industrial toxins; and HIV adherence among older African Americans.
Methodological expertise in qualitative and mixed-methods research. Former Editor of Medical Anthropology Quarterly (2006-2013) and co-director of NIH post-doctoral training programs. Current projects include community-engaged research on Detroit River environmental health and global health initiatives in Rwanda.
Awards include Distinguished Graduate Faculty Award and Outstanding Graduate Faculty Mentor Award. Leads multiple NIH R01 grants from NIA, NICHD, NIMH, and NIAID.
