Mark Parfitt is a Senior Lecturer at Curtin University's School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry, specializing in Fine Art. His academic roles include Major Lead for the Bachelor of Creative Arts Fine Art Major and Supervisor for Art and Design Honours students. He is currently a PhD candidate (Creative Practice) at RMIT University's School of Art.

Parfitt’s research focuses on sculpture, site-specific practices, participatory art, and visual pedagogy. His works interrogate suburban environments, domestic spaces, and Noongar land acknowledgment through installations, video, and community engagement. Notable projects include What is a Fence? (collaborative Noongar land acknowledgment project) and Drive-In Roulette (exploring public/private space dynamics).
Teaching accolades include multiple Curtin Humanities Teaching Excellence Awards (2020, 2017, 2016). He chairs the City of South Perth Arts Advisory Group and serves on arts committees for Victoria Park and Western Australia’s curriculum authority. His works are held in collections like the John Curtin Gallery and State Library of Western Australia.
Grants and residencies include the 2020 Department of Local Government Grant and 2010 Artsource Artspace Sydney Residency. His practice extends into community-based projects like Groundswell, addressing urban development conflicts through participatory art.
