Dr Madison Godfrey is a Sessional Academic at Curtin University’s School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry, teaching Creative Writing and Literary Studies. They hold a PhD in prose poetry and a First Class Honours degree from Curtin University. Their research explores the intersection of contemporary poetry, queer theory, and gender studies, with a focus on experimental prose forms and disability narratives. Madison is also an award-winning poet, author of two books—Dress Rehearsals (2023) and How to Be Held (2018)—and a sought-after performer, having appeared at venues like the Sydney Opera House and Glastonbury Festival.
Madison’s academic career includes a Forrest Research Foundation Creative and Performance Leadership Fellowship (2024–2026) and extensive community leadership roles, including Creative Coordinator for Youth Week WA’s KickstART Festival. They have received over 20 awards, including the Niall Lucy Award for cultural theory scholarship and the WA Youth Award for Creative Contributions. Their teaching philosophy emphasizes inclusive pedagogy, creating spaces for LGBTQIA+ and disabled students.
