Associate Professor Michelle Johnston is a faculty member at Curtin University's School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities and the Office of the Provost. Her academic background includes a BA in English (WAIT), BA Honours in Media Studies (Murdoch University), and a PhD from Murdoch University.
Her research focuses on Aboriginal community engagement, cross-cultural collaboration, action research, and environmental sustainability. Notable projects include Earthship Freo, a participatory documentary exploring sustainable living, and Working Two Way, which examines cross-cultural partnerships in Nyoongar Country. She also leads creative works such as Noongar Dandjoo, a television series highlighting Indigenous media.
Her publications emphasize themes like Indigenous pedagogy, oral history, and documentary production. Recent works address environmental crises through creative and academic lenses, reflecting her commitment to sustainability and community-driven projects.
