Mark Morton

Dr. Mark Morton is a Professor of Double Bass at the School of Music, Texas Tech University. He holds the distinction of being one of the few bassists in the United States with equal expertise as a principal in major symphony orchestras, an internationally recognized double bass soloist, and an innovative pedagogue. He teaches both French and German bow techniques and is an accomplished pianist, often accompanying his students in lessons and recitals.

Dr. Morton has performed under renowned conductors such as Leonard Bernstein, Lorin Maazel, and John Williams, and has appeared in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall over 30 times, Lincoln Center, and La Scala. His archival work includes digitizing Giovanni Bottesini manuscripts at the Conservatorio di Musica in Parma, Italy. A Juilliard graduate, he earned the Artist Diploma, Bachelor, Master, and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the same institution.
