Tristen Jarvis serves as Assistant Professor of Music Performance at Ithaca College's School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, specializing in double bass, electric bass, jazz, improvisation, chamber music, and bow physics. He maintains a multifaceted career as both educator and performer across diverse musical genres.
His research focuses on the physics of bowing technique, culminating in his "Atomic Technique" publication that breaks down bowing into 15 isolatable elements across 5 facets. Jarvis teaches a comprehensive curriculum emphasizing both pure technique and diverse repertoire, requiring students to develop skills across classical, jazz, and contemporary styles.
His performance career spans orchestral settings (The Orchestra Now, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra), jazz festivals (Hudson Jazz Festival), film soundtracks (Netflix's Maestro), and collaborations with artists ranging from Joan Jett to Wayne Newton. His scholarly approach to bass technique draws from extensive study with renowned pedagogues including Nicholas Walker, Scott Dixon, and Francois Rabbath.
