Takanari Koyama is a Lecturer in the Strings Department at Mozarteum University Salzburg since 2017. He specializes in double bass performance and pedagogy, with notable affiliations including principal double bass roles in the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra (2013–present), Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (2022–present), and Orchestra Academy of the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna. His education includes studies at the University of Arts Aichi, University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and Scuola di Musica di Fiesole under mentors like Josef Niederhammer and Alberto Bocini.
Research interests focus on classical and romantic repertoire interpretation, double bass technique evolution, and cross-genre chamber collaborations. He regularly performs with ensembles like the O/Modernt Chamber Orchestra and Royal Northern Sinfonia, emphasizing works by Bottesini, Bach, and contemporary composers. Annual summer courses (e.g., Braunlage and Izu) highlight his pedagogical contributions to intermediate/advanced bassists.
