Anthony Alcock serves as a Double Bass Tutor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, part of Birmingham City University, and holds the position of Section Leader Double Bass with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) since 2016.
His extensive orchestral career includes previous appointments as:
- Principal double bass of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
- Section leader with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales
- Section leader with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra
- Section leader with Scottish Opera
- Co-Principal with the Halle Orchestra
He has also served as guest Principal with all major London symphony orchestras (LSO, LPO, Philharmonia, BBC SO) and participates in commercial film recording sessions.
As a soloist, Alcock has recorded concerti for BBC Radio 3 and Radio Scotland featuring works by Koussevitsky, Bottesini, Van Hal, McGuire, and Glynn, including a special Koussevitsky anniversary recording. His recital performance and masterclass at the Royal Scottish Academy during the "partial to Paganini" festival received commendation in "The Strad". He performs on two historic instruments: an English bass by John Lott senior (c.1810) and an Italian bass by Rastelli (1848).
His teaching career spans positions at Chetham's School of Music (Manchester), the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) for both junior and senior levels, and guest appointments at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD) and Royal College of Music (RCM).
