Dominic Dudley is a Professor of Double Bass at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM). He holds a distinguished career as a performer, educator, and chamber musician. Appointed at 23 as Section Leader (Principal) Double Bass with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, he has also served as Guest Principal with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and Ulster Orchestra.
His education includes studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under Thomas Martin and Kevin Rundell. As a soloist, he has performed with the NSOI, Hiberian Orchestra, Dublin City Chamber Orchestra, and Royal Irish Academy Symphony Orchestra. He collaborates with renowned artists like Nicola Benedetti, the Vanburgh Quartet, and Jörg Widmann, and regularly participates in the West Cork Chamber Music Festival.
He founded the crossover ensemble meascan, blending bluegrass music with classical traditions. Since 1996, he has taught at RIAM and expanded into music education initiatives, including school workshops with the NSOI. He performs on a rare 1820 Lott English Double Bass and an instrument crafted by his mentor Thomas Martin.
