Aura Stone is a double bass faculty member at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) since 2021. She holds a BMus degree and specializes in fusing experiential learning with technical mastery in bass instruction. Previously, she served as sub-principal double bass in the RTE National Symphony Orchestra until 2016. A versatile freelance performer, she collaborates with orchestras including the Irish Chamber Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, and Wexford Festival Opera. As principal bass of the Orchestra of St Cecilia, she performed Bach’s complete church cantatas over a decade. Her chamber music projects emphasize expanding the bass repertoire through 18th/early 20th-century discoveries.
Co-founder of classicalkids.ie, she pioneered chamber music concerts for infants and adults, expanding nationwide with partnerships like the National Concert Hall. She examines for RIAM and Cork School of Music, tutors DYO/NYOI bass sections, and delivers masterclasses at the National Concert Hall. Her teaching extends to the Presto Project and Cherry Orchard initiatives. She plays a custom double bass crafted by Thomas Martin.
