Dr. Mark Miller is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Cardiovascular Science, University of Edinburgh, specializing in the cardiovascular impacts of air pollution. His research focuses on the biological mechanisms through which inhaled nanoparticles—including both environmental pollutants and engineered particles—affect the cardiovascular system, with translational links to clinical research and public health.
His work addresses critical gaps in understanding nanoparticle-induced cardiovascular harm, particularly regarding engineered nanoparticles. Key research themes include atherosclerosis, vascular endothelium dysfunction, nitric oxide signaling, and oxidative stress. He utilizes advanced in vitro and in vivo models to explore these mechanisms.
Mark Miller contributes to the British Heart Foundation Cardiovascular Biomarker Laboratory’s operations at the Queen’s Medical Research Institute, which supports clinical trials and high-sensitivity cardiac troponin research. The facility collaborates with industry leaders like Abbott Diagnostics and Roche Diagnostics.
