Dr. Mark Lang is a Research Associate at the Welsh Economy Research Unit (WERU) within Cardiff Business School at Cardiff University. He joined WERU in 2023 and is available for postgraduate supervision, contributing to research, analysis, and evaluation on all aspects of the Welsh economy. His work aims to improve the performance of Welsh firms, organizations, and the third sector.

Mark's research interests span place-based economic, social, environmental, and cultural sustainability. He has developed expertise in analyzing the foundational economy in Wales, regional development approaches, and the compound semiconductor cluster in South Wales. His work bridges academic research with practical policy applications for the Welsh context.
His publication portfolio demonstrates a strong focus on territorial approaches to sustainability, regional economic development, and responses to economic crises. Recent works analyze the semiconductor industry governance, place-based sustainable planning, and the impacts of government interventions on local economies in Wales.
