Dr. Chen Xu is a Lecturer in Economics at Swansea University's School of Social Sciences. She holds a PhD in Economics from Cardiff University (2018) and previously worked as a Research Fellow/Associate at Cardiff University and the University of Sussex. Her research focuses on Regional Economics, Industrial Economics, and the digital economy, with emphasis on Wales' economic development, semiconductor clusters, tourism impacts, and ICT policy. She leads the ONS-funded 'Measuring the Digital Economy' project and co-leads the ESRC-funded 'Low Carbon Community' initiative.

Research Interests: Dr. Xu’s work spans regional development strategies, semiconductor industry innovation, tourism economics, and digital economy measurement. She has contributed to major projects like the £1.5m ERDF Superfast Broadband initiative and the £43m UKRI CSConnected semiconductor project. Her methods include CGE modeling and analysis of HMRC/ONS datasets.
