Professor Annette Roberts is affiliated with Cardiff Business School at Cardiff University, where she has been a member of staff since 1994. She holds the academic rank of Professor of Economics and serves as Deputy Director of the Welsh Economy Research Unit (WERU) and Editor of the Welsh Economic Review. Her career spans over 30 years in regional economics and policy.

Roberts' research focuses on regional economics and policy, regional input-output analysis, economic evaluation, foreign direct investment, and economic development. Her work includes long-term projects such as Economic Intelligence Wales (SME finance), Compound Semiconductor Cluster evaluation, and A465 road improvement socio-economic analysis. She explores how digital infrastructure, inward investment, and policy frameworks shape regional Economies.
Her 15 most recent publications (2018–2025) span journals like European Planning Studies and Transport Policy, alongside numerous technical reports for Welsh Government, Development Bank of Wales, and CSconnected. Topics include industrial cluster dynamics, SME financial ecosystems, digital maturity, and infrastructure policy impacts.
As Editor of the Welsh Economic Review, she curates academic discourse on Wales-specific economic issues. Her teaching involves undergraduate modules in Managerial Economics and Modern Business Enterprise, plus postgraduate instruction in Economics and the Business Environment. She supervises MSc dissertations annually.
