Dr. Mark Davis is a Professor of Sociology at Monash University, leading the Centre to Impact Antimicrobial Resistance (CIAMR) and serving on the External Advisory Board of the Transdisciplinary Antimicrobial Resistance Genomics Network (TARGetAMR). Born in Zimbabwe and educated in Australia and England (PhD, London), his expertise spans medical sociology, public health, and pandemic preparedness. He teaches courses on global health and pandemics, including ATS3618/APG5164 Global Health and ATS3158/APG5158 Pandemics and Social Justice.
His research focuses on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), HIV treatment/prevention, and pandemic governance. Notable projects include the ARC Discovery Project on health data equity for LGBTQ+ communities and the Public Understandings of Immunity Systems project. He has secured grants totaling over AUD 4M, including DP230100245 and DP250100827.
Dr. Davis has authored 149 publications, including works on antibiotic economies, pandemic communication, and queer health data justice. He advises governmental and non-profit organizations on AMR strategies and has engaged in consultations for Australia’s pandemic response. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health equity and sustainable communities.
