Thomas Naderer is an Associate Professor (Research) in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at Monash University, affiliated with the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute and the Centre to Impact Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). He earned his PhD from the University of Melbourne in 2004 and established the macrophage-pathogen interaction research group in 2012 with NHMRC funding. His research focuses on understanding how microbes manipulate macrophage survival to evade immune defenses and develop novel treatment strategies for infections.

Research Interests:
His work investigates programmed cell death pathways in infections, bacterial vesicle-mediated host cell killing, and metabolic crosstalk between pathogens and macrophages. Recent breakthroughs include demonstrating that drugs targeting infected macrophages can combat pneumonia, fungal infections, and sexually transmitted diseases. His group also explores how superbugs disable host immune cells to persist within the body.
