Mark Brest Van Kempen is an Adjunct Professor at California College of the Arts, teaching in the First Year Core Studio Program. His interdisciplinary practice combines Conceptual Art, Land Art, and Social Practice, using landscape as sculptural material to explore human-environment relationships. He has received significant recognition including a California Arts Council Fellowship and residencies at Dalsland Museum (Sweden) and Headlands Center for the Arts. His work is featured in publications like Art in America and The New York Times.
Research Focus: Environmental narratives, public space interventions, and the sociopolitical dimensions of land use. His projects include the Free Speech Monument (UC Berkeley) and international installations like Land Exchange in China.
