Taro Hattori is an Assistant Professor in the Sculpture Program at California College of the Arts. He holds an MFA in Time Arts/Video from School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BA in Clinical Psychology from Sophia University, Tokyo. His practice creates socially engaged installations addressing migration, displacement, and community dialogue.
Research focuses on refugee/immigrant experiences through participatory projects incorporating music and conversation. Notable works include Exinclusivity examining labor economics and Swan Song documenting gentrification through community narratives. Hattori has received grants from Creative Work Fund, California Arts Council, and residencies at Headlands Center for the Arts, Montalvo Arts Center, and deYoung Museum.
