Mark Bevir is a Professor of Political Science and Director of the Center for British Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. He holds concurrent professorial roles at King's College London (Political Economy) and the United Nations University (Governance). His research focuses on governance, political theory, and interpretive approaches to politics. Bevir has consulted for governments and UN agencies globally, emphasizing multiculturalism, legislative studies, and security governance.
Key research areas include the philosophy of history, deliberative democracy, and the English School of international relations. He serves as general editor of The Oxford History of Political Thought and has led journals like Journal of the Philosophy of History. Bevir’s work bridges historical analysis with contemporary policy issues, such as Brexit’s impact on national identity and decentralized governance models.
