Mark A. Meadow is a Professor of Art History at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and held a concurrent position as Professor (Hoogleraar) for History and Theory of Collections at Leiden University (2006–2011). His work bridges Northern Renaissance art, museum history, and early modern spectacle. He earned B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, Berkeley.
Specializing in Northern European art (15th–17th centuries), Kunst- and Wunderkammern, and museum collecting practices, Meadow explores intersections of art, rhetoric, and ritual. His research spans print culture, early modern spectacles, and the valuation of academic collections. Notable publications include studies on Pieter Bruegel, translations of historical texts, and co-founding the Proteus book series on early modern identity formation.
