Prof. Dr. Nils Büttner is Professor of Medieval and Modern Art History at State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart, serving since 2008. He holds leadership roles as Head of Art Collections/Archives and Vice-Head of Art History Department. Education includes a doctorate from University of Göttingen (1999) and habilitation from TU Dortmund (2004).
His research focuses on German/Dutch art (16th-17th centuries), Rubens studies, and media-historical analysis of artworks. Current projects include contributing to the Rubens catalogue raisonné and exhibition curation. Recent books include publications on Pieter Bruegel, Rubens, and landscape painting history.

He currently supervises 7 doctoral candidates researching topics from Memling altarpieces to Strohmosaik conservation techniques.
